31 DAYS TO A BETTER PRAYER LIFE | DAY 15: MAKE IT UNIQUE

Once, Larry and I designed a prayer walk for a volunteer minister’s retreat. We wanted the ministers to be reminded how God was with them no matter how successful their ministries seemed to be at the time. We prayed about the prayer walk (imagine that) and we came up with an idea.

At the beginning of the walk, each person grabbed a short chain that they carried with them throughout the walk. At stops along the walk, there were scripture cards that reminded the ministers that God has been with them from the beginning. That He was with them on their worst day and their best. By the end of the walk each minister understood they were holding a chain full of links that represented different moments in their life. The last stop of the walk was a huge cross with nails that had chains hanging from it. The music played at the cross was reminding them of God’s grace. It was a powerful symbol of Christ taking our circumstances on himself. Without instructions every minister went to the cross to hang their chains.

You probably can’t do that tomorrow or anytime soon for that matter. But what you can do is make your prayer time today unique.

Maybe at lunch you walk to the local park and pray surrounded by nature. Maybe you pull your car over at place where something meaningful happened in your life and thank God for that time or for getting you through that time. Maybe you go downtown with all the business, find a bench and quietly pray for those who walk by.

The point is this; we want you to pray daily. We want you to pray consistently. We want you to look forward to praying. Sometimes though, we want you to make it unique. Not in a superficial way but in a way that is meaningful to you.

You may have thought of the way while reading this. You may have to think about it for a while.

But get out of your comfort zone sometime soon and be overwhelmed with how God meets you there.
