28 WAYS TO EXPERIENCE GOD | #12: ATTEND CHURCH REGULARLY

28 Ways To Experience God “Well… there it is,” you are exclaiming, if you have been following along.  The conversation always comes around to reading your bible, praying, and going to church.

I don’t really have a defense for you if this comes across as being negative nor do I have an apology.  Being consistent in my attendance at church benefits me in so many ways.  I am surrounded by people that love me and want God’s best for me.  I am around people that will pray for me.  I am around people that go out of their way to love my children.  I am surrounded by people that are on the same journey that I am on so they understand how difficult it is to live holy in a sinful world.  And the list goes on and on. 28 WAYS TO EXPERIENCE GOD | #9: JOIN A SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDY

28 Ways To Experience God A few days ago we read about experiencing God through others and then we read about experiencing God through reading the bible and learning to think differently.

One of the best ways to experience God in both of those ways is to join a bible study.  This is not to be confused with attending a worship service or even a mid-week bible study for the entire church.  While those are beneficial and we will talk about those more in the weeks to come, I am talking about a small group of people where you have the opportunity to give and receive feedback. 28 WAYS TO EXPERIENCE GOD | #2: IT STARTS WITH FAITH

God is not a concept or a doctrine.  He is a Person who seeks a close, one-on-one relationship with you and me.  God does not want us to merely believe in Him, He wants to relate to us on a personal level.  He does not just want to hear us recite prayers.  He wants to converse with us.  God’s plan is not to abandon Christians once we are born again, leaving us to build the best life we can.  He does not intend that we simply use our wits to “get by,” to bravely “survive” until we are finally ushered into heaven.   God wants to be actively involved in our lives each day. –Henry Blackaby Continue reading

31 DAYS TO A BETTER PRAYER LIFE | DAY 27: IT’S OK TO QUESTION

Everyone that has ever prayed has asked God questions.

Usually those questions are something like this:

· God, what do you want me to do in this situation?

· Father, should I accept this new job opportunity?

· Lord, who do you want me to pray for today?

Those are good questions and they should be asked.

However, there are questions that we may assume aren’t appropriate to ask. Continue reading

31 DAYS TO A BETTER PRAYER LIFE | DAY 17: PRAYING WITH OTHERS

Contrary to what some people believe, we were not meant to be lone rangers in our pursuit of God.  The Church is meant to pursue God in the context of community.

As we seek to grow in our faith we must surround ourselves with people that will encourage us to walk closer to God.  A very important part of that journey is finding people that can pray with you and for you. Continue reading
