Every once in a while, before I pray I make a quick list of people or situations that need prayer. Not only so I can remember them during the prayer but mostly so I can focus before I pray. It seems to help me recall the conversations I’ve had, the people I am scheduled to meet later and tasks I need to accomplish. It makes for a better prayer time because I meditated on what the day presented to me and prepared me for what may come.
I make the list on my phone and set a reminder or I simply write it on a piece of paper. Some days I compile the list throughout the day, other times I make it seconds before I pray. It helps me get my thoughts together. When I pray, I don’t always follow the list or mention every single listed item. But in a way, even while making the list I’m praying.
We will cover keeping a prayer journal later in this series. That is an extremely rewarding practice. However, just taking a minute or two to stop and list the people or circumstances that are on your mind can be very beneficial. You may come up with a different way to focus and remember. That is fine, just put a little thought and effort into helping yourself prepare for prayer. You may find it opens up the attitude of prayer throughout the day.
