SHOULD YOU SHARE YOUR FAITH IF OTHERS DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT?

The world does not recognize its darkness, however.  One of the catchphrases of the Renaissance in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries was that “knowledge brings light.”  Many replaced the knowledge of God with man’s reasoning, placing human insight above God’s wisdom.  They replaced the worship of God with the worship of man’s intellect. –Bob Farley

In today’s culture many are antagonistic towards the Christian perspective.  We are told by those in society and the law that Christianity and its teachings have no place in the public school system.  The media consistently highlights anything negative about people of faith while reporting very little about the good work that has been done and continues to be done by people that are followers of Christ.

There are some major issues in our culture that are hot button topics that cause many to quickly dismiss the Christian perspective and negatively label people that hold to the Bibles teachings.  Those of us that do not agree with abortion are labeled as being insensitive towards women because abortion has been framed as a women’s rights issue.  Those of us that do not agree with a homosexual lifestyle are quickly dismissed and labeled as archaic and out of touch.  Those of us that believe in abstinence before marriage are made fun of and told that this is an unrealistic position to take.  We are also told that this is a harmful position to teach our children.

The list goes on and on but the above is a short list of hot button topics.  This is also a short list of issues where the culture refuses to adhere to the boundaries established in the pages of Scripture.

Those that have opposing views to the Bible and God’s teaching and those that reject God all together are not new to our place in history.  But these people do live in darkness and are the best evidence for the need of those that follow Christ, to first, set an example, and secondly, to be bold in sharing the truth they know from studying God’s Word.  The bible tells us:

I Peter 2:9…9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

This is not only a privilege but an obligation to share our faith because we were also called out of darkness at some point.  Those that live in darkness need someone to cast a light on their situation.  Even though it is initially or even consistently rejected, we as followers of Christ, must be faithful to share the truth of Scripture and the story of our redemption.  We must also live in such a way that our lifestyle lines up with our talk lest we be labeled as hypocrites.

To answer the question in the title, yes, you should share your faith if others do not want to hear it.  Those that walk in darkness do not know it and reject the light.  Do not fear when you are labeled as arrogant or out of touch. Jesus was also ridiculed and rejected by many in his day as well.

Are you prepared to be light in the midst of darkness?
